What’s on in September. With the schools now back we too are continuing to learn with several events happening this month.
Firstly we have Corey and Angela Stuck, lead evangelist and woman’s ministry leader respectively, from our sister church in Hamden Roads, Virginia, USA, who have been invited to speak at the joint midweek on the 1st of September. They will be teaching spiritual warfare drawing on Ephesians chapter 6.
On Friday the 4th of September our Yong Professionals group, Nexus, will be having a discussion on Christianity and the environment. In particular, we will be looking at Genesis chapter 1. Glasgow will soon be Hosing the UN conference on climate change so it is something to be looking forward to and engage with. To wet your apatite did you know that there are 100 trillion ants on the planet, compared to only seven billion people. If you look across all the forms of life God has made, you could argue that God is an entomologist. On a more sober note, if you walk down one mile of US highway, you are likely to encounter 1,500 pieces of litter.
UK Church Conference
Between the 11th and 13th of September, we have the annual church conference. The overall theme of the conference is “the fields are ripe”. The keynote speaker and primary teacher is Shane McDowell from our sister Church in Stockholm. If it is anything like the teaching days we had just before the pandemic hit, it should be particularly engaging and interesting with topics and useful take-home points for everyone.
Youn Professionals Service
This is followed the following week with our second ever young professionals service, we will have Rahul Nanjundan delivering the lesson and Michael Mabbott sharing thoughts for communion. There will be a time of sharing from the sisters. As we are enjoying having the ability to sing so we are looking forward to some lively songs. We hope that an encouraging time will be had by all
On the 21st we will have a joint men’s meeting with the Edinburgh Church looking at the discipline of prayer, chapter 9 of Dishpans of a Godly Man by R. Kent Heughs. There will be a bible talk leaders meeting on the 26th of September. This is the final month of our quarter focusing on “like-minded in Christ’s mission” which has been focused on the book of Romans.
September UK Churches
We have Rebecka and Zack Anton who lead the recently planted Cardiff Church teaching on the 29th of September. We look forward to welcoming them and hearing all the good news that is happening in Cardiff, particularly as we sent our very own sister, Lorna Jarvis, on the initial church planting. Many of us also know the Antons so are very happy to connect with them and have them up with us again at last.
Fairwells and New Arrivals
Whilst we deeply miss the Huang’s return to mainland China we can be encouraged by the arrival and the Chou family from Hong Kong. We shall be giving them a true Glaswegian welcome. We are glad to have them join our church family.
Finally, in the educational vein, we are encouraged with the large number of people studying the bible at present and those who continue to be met.
