What’s On In March 2022 In The Glasgow Church Of Christ

What’s on in March? In the first weekend in March, we have Chris and Theresa Broom staying with us. Chris is the lead evangelist in our sister church in Manchester and he will be preaching to us on the 6th of March from the book of Mark on the “The Power of God’s Word”.

Glasgow and Manchester have close relationships being both “northern” churches. We have often hosted teen devotionals and young professionals meetings together. Our relationship has been strengthened by the fact that one of our one-year challengers, Nick Ghalustians, went on to serve in the ministry in Manchester. We are grateful that the Brume family are able to be with us and we hope to be inspired by their faith.

Teen Disciples Retreat

In the semi-final week in February (the 19th and 20th) our teen disciples, Isaac and Katie, braved the stormy winds to attend the Teens Disciple retreat on “the time is now”. There were several lessons, games and fellowship. They looked at issues such as how to make the most of right now, such as coming out of lockdown, how to make an impact on each other and how to transform heart and mind. This was the first teen disciples retreat to be held in person in two years so we are all generally very encouraged that this could go ahead, despite the weather. Our teens came back impacted by the event and had much to share with the other teens and their friends and families.

Glasgow Women’s Day

On the 12th of March there is a Women’s Day, to be held at the Clyde Community Hall. This is an annual event that has proved very popular in the past. The event has a range of speakers, including talks on nutrition, mindfulness and creativity. There is also plenty of opportunity for fellowship, with tea and cake being provided. We wholeheartedly welcome the fact that enough normality has returned to be able to host this event in person.

March Sunday Services

The following day at church (the 13th of march) we have Ed and Jackie Priestley from the Southside Region of London joining us. Ed will be preaching from Mark 10 on “the Rich and the Kingdom of God”. This should be an exciting time. Again, we are glad to be building our relationships with our sister churches. It is always interesting to see a wider range of preachers and their styles, thoughts and approaches to scripture. We will be giving the Priestleys a traditional Glasgow welcome. Once again God is blessing us with the freedom and ability to host others, which we recognise as a great blessing after two years of lockdown.

As usual the last weekend in March (Sunday 27th) is a UK wide service that will be held online.

The men’s midweek on the 9th of March is in person again at Clyde Community Hall. We are working through areas to develop as men, this month we are focusing on Love.

March Campaign

Our campaign fortnight has current provisional dates between the 20th of March and the 3rd of April. Though we are currently experiencing much growth so this may be postponed. If you are interested in studying the bible do contact us.

Ukraine Collection

Our family of churches have been collecting for Ukraine through our affiliated charity Hope Worldwide. We have raised over £15,000. We are still collecting so if you are interested in donating go to: www.hopeworldwide.org.uk/give

When prompted, chose the International General Fund. If you are eligible don’t forget to tick the “gift aid option” as this increases the value of the donation by 25% with no cost to you.

Clyde Community Hall is also doing a collection for smaller items and we will be brining stuff on the 6th of March. This option will be open for a while, so there are several options to give. We continue to pray for the situation in Ukraine and for peace to come quickly.

Prayer Requests

We also have a couple of prayer requests:

  • Firstly, we thank God that there are so many people studying the bible at present and it is a joy to be able to help people get to know God better.
  • Secondly: we are praying for a young man and a young woman to come and do a one-year challenge with us in Glasgow.

The one-year change is a chance for disciples who are resent university graduates to work in another part of the country (or world) and work with the church. We have had excellent experiences with one-year challengers in the past and is a great opportunity to develop your faith and gain a wide range of skills. One of our challengers has gone on to work in the ministry in Manchester. If you are considering this then we encourage you to look into this further.
