Message Summary & Reflection
Wholehearted Devotion
We were reminded about Caleb’s many years of devotion to God by the time the Israelites came to the point when they were instructed to move into the Promised Land. Caleb stayed faithful to the belief that God would deliver on His promises to the people.
When we make the decision to make Jesus Lord of our lives, we are in fact promising to stay faithful to that decision for the rest of our lives. Sometimes that is really hard to do (especially if the decision is made in one’s youth). We have absolutely no idea what life holds for us but we keep coming back to the Bible and to God to remind ourselves of our commitment and to be reminded of what God has already done for us.
I have never doubted God during difficult times, but my nature is to go into a doing-“fix it” mode, which means that I try to sort out the problem on my own terms. Sometimes I am not patient to wait for God’s intervention and my thoughts keep returning to what I need to do. Corey Stuck’s suggestion to study out the promises of God is a great idea for times such as this.
In my head, I accept that difficulties are part of life and I keep telling myself this. I try to imitate the faith of those people in the Bible who rose above their difficulties. I want to be like Caleb who did not lose heart even when many of this fellow Israelites gave way to fear and did not see the Promised Land. I want to stay devoted to the right things in life so that I too can see God’s promise fulfilled.
