Three Powerful Secrets to Drive our Faith
Humility
Paul was a man driven by humility. In v3 he highlights his weakness in stating that he came to the Corinthians in fear and much trembling. What was remarkable was that when he talked about himself he never did so to boast about his strengths but only his weaknesses. 2 Cor 11:16 was cited to show how Paul had been flogged, beaten, and in danger, and his concerns about the church, being shipwrecked. He said that he would boast not to elevate himself but to God.
I have been reading over the last month a very powerful book called “The Prideful Souls Guide to Humility” by Tom Jones and Mike Fontenot. I have been so convicted because there are so many ways I can be proud, so many ways I look down on others and try to make myself look good in front of others. Paul is someone who strived never to do that. He wanted us and his hearers to be pointed not towards him, Paul, but towards Christ.
Salvation
God’s secret wisdom was hidden but now revealed. How appreciative and grateful we should be that Jesus has saved us out of the world, our sins are forgiven and we have been given the promise of eternity with Him. It is so easy to take our salvation for granted, we don’t live our day-to-day lives in the way we should, we forget to pray, or forget our daily walk with God, we neglect our bible study, we neglect to love others as Jesus taught us.
Remembering these things, having that daily reminder that no matter what we need to do each day, our first priority will be our relationship with Jesus.
Holy Spirit
When we were baptised we were forgiven of our sins but we also received the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:36-39) He is our guarantee of salvation, our guarantee that Jesus is with us to the very end of our lives. He transforms our lives and gives us insight into the scriptures and he gives us the way to put all that we read into practice. As disciples of Christ, we cannot do without the Holy Spirit, it returns us to the first point – if we try to live our Christian lives without the Holy Spirit, there is no humility in us.
