We continue this week in our Book of Acts Sermon Series with Mike Jarvis leading us in a message from Acts 16 titled, “Into Uncharted Territories”. Join us for our Sunday service as we celebrate, worship, and take communion together.
Worship is led by Simon Phillips of our Glasgow Church worship team.
Message Summary & Reflection
In reflecting on the journey of Paul, Silas, Timothy, Lydia, and the countless others who embarked on missions guided by the Spirit, we uncover profound truths about the essence of the gospel. “The Gospel starts with GO” is more than a catchy phrase; it encapsulates the very heart of our Christian calling.
We witness Timothy’s willingness to go, even to the point of undergoing circumcision not for his own salvation but as a gesture to ease the path for others. Paul and Silas exemplify perseverance and obedience as they navigate the twists and turns of their missionary journey, following the Spirit’s guidance even when it leads to unexpected detours. Lydia demonstrates gratitude, her heart receptive to the message despite not physically going on missions herself. And the jailer, touched by the power of Paul and Silas’s testimony, embraces the gospel with his entire household.
At the crux of it all lies a simple yet profound question: What does the Spirit say to us today? Are we willing to heed His call, whether it leads us to distant lands or the hearts of our neighbours? Do we carry the same spirit of gratitude that Lydia embodied, recognizing the immense gift of salvation we’ve received? Are we prepared to face challenges with the same resilience and faith as Paul and Silas, knowing that God is with us even in the darkest of times?
The gospel isn’t confined to the walls of a church or the pages of a book; it’s a living, breathing force that propels us to action. It beckons us to step out in faith, to go wherever the Spirit leads, knowing that our journey is not in vain. Whether we stay or go, our mission remains the same: to share the message of God’s love and redemption with a world in desperate need.
So let us go forth, equipped with the same courage, conviction, and compassion exhibited by our spiritual predecessors. Let us embrace the call of the gospel, for truly, we can’t spell gospel without G-O.
