Message Summary & Reflection
Today’s sermon is from Zechariah 11. As Zechariah means “Jehovah remembers” we understand that God remembers his promises, He knows what He is doing and He is in control. God was using Zecheriah as his prophet to warn the people not to be complacent, to expect judgement and be forewarned.
Among the minor prophets, Zechariah has the most messianic prophecies.
1. Judgement Is Coming.
We know that there are consequences to our actions. Judgement will be coming to all humanity, it is the reality of life (Heb 9:27). Jesus talked a lot about what was to come. He did not want people to be unaware, but he wanted to warn all (Matt 10:28). We have the Bible as a warning and reminder that we need to deal with sin in our lives and in the church (1 Cor 10:1;11-12)
We so easily deceive ourselves because we are not open. When we are not real with ourselves and others we are not close, we hurt our relationship with God and with one another. Judge only yourself, reflect on yourself with honesty, and reflect on your own actions, and how they affect others. Ask yourself how you are really living, how your purity really is (1 Cor 11:31). God’s primary concern for us is our holiness. Jesus is interested in commitment, not just in numbers (Heb 12:14).
Help each other. We must all answer for our lives. Because we know what’s coming we should be keen and eager to snatch others out of the fire. (Jude 1:23)
2. There Is No One Like God.
The purpose of a prophecy is to tell you things before they happen so that you’ll know when they do happen, that God is who He says He is. Zech 11:12 was a prophecy. In Matt 27:3-10, that prophecy was fulfilled.
There is no one like God (Isa 44:6-7; 46:9-10). God is in total control. What is your heart is competing in taking God’s place? He alone deserves our worship.
3. God Relentlessly Pursues His People.
God doesn’t stop seeking us, He is still the Shepherd (Ps100:3). God’s judgement is done out of love. His judgement is meant to draw us back to Him (Jer 29:10-12). We are constantly reminded that God is relentlessly pursuing his people (2 Sam 14:14; Acts 17:24-27)
As God pursues us, He wants us to share with others what we have been given. We have been given the ministry of reconciliation and as Christians, we are ambassadors for this ministry. So open your mouth; share your faith and snatch people out of the fire (2 Cor 5:16-20)
God is relentless in His pursuit of his people because a judgement is coming and He wants us back with Him. So take heed of the scriptures and put them into practice.
