Message Summary & Reflection
WHAT WILL YOU CHOOSE?
During the Feast of Tabernacles, Jesus’s teachings make people start to question the authority with which he speaks. Jesus responds with an invitation to choose to do God’s will and obey (John 8:31-32) in order to see the truth of his authority given by God.
The only way to see the truth is to accept this invitation from Jesus, to put his teachings into practice, and seek and do the will of God. This is a choice we must make because when it comes to Christ, there is no fence-sitting. Not only shall we make this choice, but also pass this invitation on to others and encourage them with the same promise. To choose Christ will bring the result of faith and certainty, as we will come to the knowledge of the truth and be set free by it.
WHAT WILL GOD BRING INTO MY LIFE?
John 7:37
The Feast of Tabernacles was a Jewish holiday to remember and celebrate the exodus from Egypt and God’s miraculous provision through the wilderness. This festival lasted several days, and on the greatest day, Jesus proclaimed himself as the source of ultimate provision, that anyone who is thirsty should come to him.
It is true that even amongst the most religious of festivals, events, and environments, there are souls that are dry and in need. Only a relationship with Christ can fulfill the desires and needs of our soul. All other things will leave us empty and frustrated. God is calling us to draw near to Him, through reading and following His Word. God’s desire and the plan is to lead us to a place of strength in our soul and quench the thirst we have, but he will not make the choice for us. We must choose to listen and follow, and devote ourselves to Him. If we do, all our needs will be met in abundance and we will be taken to that strength! (Matt 6:33)
LET’S FOLLOW THE EXAMPLE OF JESUS
John 7:1-13
We know now, that Jesus was God – the true authority and creator of the universe! And we know that he decided to leave Heaven to become a servant. (Hebrews 1:3, 2 Cor 8:8-9, 2 Cor 9:6-11) We became rich through his poverty.
Our richness given to us by Christ has enabled us to give! We can be generous with our time, our energy, our blessings, gifts, and any other resources that we have. In this way, we can follow the example of Christ
Let’s choose Jesus because he has authority and can be trusted. He will help us invest in heavenly treasure and fulfill every need that we have. And let’s follow his example by being fully committed to giving in a generous and thankful spirit.
