Message Summary & Reflection
If you’re going to look at someone who’s heart changed completely towards God then the account of Saul (becoming Paul) in Acts 9 is a great choice. Paul’s life changed so dramatically that he even ended up challenging his fellow apostle Peter for his apparent drift back to his old ways (Galatians 2).
Justin clearly showed how a personal encounter with God can be the only thing that changes hearts for the better. His own experience and the sharing from two opposing soldiers showed this in dramatic effect.
Justin encouraged us to take time to examine and re-examine God’s word and not to toss it to one side without spending the time that we would take with any other relationship. When the changes start to become difficult he encourages us not to put off the difficult decisions – they never get easier the longer we leave them.
After his personal encounter with God, Saul was baptised. Justin demonstrated how the washings of rebirth make the life changes more solid than reliance on the original decision. The importance of life change was illustrated by Justin’s father observing his son’s change of focus and how it changed his mind too..
The sermon made and illustrated some of the key points in changing our hearts and it was good to be reminded of them. As Justin said, there is nothing better watching God change people’s lives and change their hearts for the better; his sermon today did this in spades.
