Message Summary & Reflection
Verses 1 – 7 God really loves us all (see also Romans 5: 6-8)
Here Moses reminds the Israelites what God has done in the past. How we brought them out of Egypt. He reminds them what God did to the Pharaoh at that time – Rameses II is generally believed to be the greatest Pharaoh to ever reign in Egypt. Still, God brought them out!
God was also with them in the wilderness – God provided and protected the Israelites throughout their wandering.
How do we relate to this? It is also for us – What has God done for you? Have you been protected? Have you been provided for?
Verses 8 – 15 God really wants to bless us. He really wants to have a relationship with us ( see also 1 Peter 2:9-11)
Moses reminds them to what extent they had to work the land in Egypt – to be able to produce crops to eat. The flat, dry land needed to be irrigated – this was hard work.
God tells them about the land he wants to bless them with – a contrasting land, being green and pleasant.
How much do we appreciate who God is? Do we appreciate His promises? Do we truly understand how much God wants the best for us?
Verses 16 – 21 God wants to guide us
In this section of the chapter, God gives three warnings:
- Let your hearts be set on God
- Let His word be your guide
- Let your speech be about God.
We might well ask ourselves these questions … Where is your heart? And, what is it set on?
Verses 22 – 32 Mount Ebal or Mount Gerizim?
Moses now charges the Israelites with making a decision. He sets before them a blessing and a curse. Turn to God and accept blessing or turn away from God and accept curse.
Perhaps we can ask ourselves the same – Will we turn to God or turn away? It’s your choice.
