Continuing our Companions of Paul series, Tom Emery will bring this week’s message, “Timothy: Timid to Tremendous”. Looking at Acts 16:1–5 and 2 Timothy 1:1–7, we will consider how Timothy’s reputation, steady faith and readiness to face difficult tasks equipped him to serve the gospel. Whether travelling with Paul or carrying out responsibilities away from him, Timothy demonstrated the value of dependable, wholehearted discipleship.
Timothy’s story also brings us to Paul’s encouragement to fan God’s gift into flame, remembering that the Spirit gives us “power, love and self-discipline”. What might we learn from this about facing our own fears, growing in spiritual confidence and encouraging others to embrace the work God places before them?
Our service will begin with worship songs led by Andy Gould, Lesley Gould & Shona Tootill, followed by a welcome and prayer from Chris C. Joe Birr will share the communion message, helping us turn our hearts towards the cross of Christ as we remember his sacrifice and take communion together. Tom Emery will then share the sermon.
The service starts at 10:30 am, and all are welcome to join us either in person or online.
These questions connect with our 2026 theme, “Walking Each Other Home”. As we experience the joys and struggles of life, we want to be a church family that helps one another keep moving forward in faith. Following our Saviour Jesus and guided by the Holy Spirit, we walk together with God towards the hope of eternal life in Heaven with him. Along the way, each of us has opportunities to offer strength, kindness and encouragement to our fellow travellers.
You are warmly invited to join Glasgow Church of Christ on Sunday 25th October 2026 at 10:30 am. Come along in person or join us online as we gather to worship, pray, share communion and learn together from God’s Word.

Scriptures To Be Shared In This Message:
Acts 16:1-5 – Timothy Joins Paul and Silas
16 Paul came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where a disciple named Timothy lived, whose mother was Jewish and a believer but whose father was a Greek. 2 The believers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him. 3 Paul wanted to take him along on the journey, so he circumcised him because of the Jews who lived in that area, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. 4 As they traveled from town to town, they delivered the decisions reached by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem for the people to obey. 5 So the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers.
2 Timothy 1:1-7
1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, in keeping with the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus,
2 To Timothy, my dear son:
Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
Thanksgiving
3 I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. 4 Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. 5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.
Appeal for Loyalty to Paul and the Gospel
6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
