Rich and poor have this in common:
The LORD is the Maker of them all.
- Proverbs 22:2

Nursery and Primary School, Bhuj

On 26 January, 2001, Republic Day, Bhuj was devastated by what was later called the greatest intra-plate quake in the continental shield; the deadliest in its category over the last 189 years. The crippling devastation in its aftermath drew relief workers from all over the globe. After the initial wave, relief work began to be diverted - to disasters and victims in other parts of the world. But the mountains of rubble are still monument to the terrible reality of the people of Bhuj, still shaken by the ominous tremors that continue to ripple through the fragile fabric of their lives.

Then, there were those who stayed - Prabhu and Annie and their five-year-old daughter; Stalin; Samson; Kailash and Manisha. On one acre of land donated to HOPE foundation, they run a mini hospital and an english medium primary school that is housed in a building designed by architect Neehar Raina, using seismic-proof technology. In the Centre of HOPE, there is a semblance of normalcy for the 125 children who come to school every morning and a measure of hope for the 500 patients who crowd the medical camp every Thursday; in knowing that they have not been utterly abandoned.
